Jesus had just finished telling His parable of the sower to a large crowd. Some of the seed fell on rocky ground. Some seed fell among thorns. Some seed was eaten by birds. Yet some of the seed fell on good ground and created a harvest.
Perplexed by this parable, the disciples asked for Jesus to explain it to them. After explaining it to His disciples, Jesus stated that "if anyone has ears to hear, he should listen!" This must have affected the disciples. They must have thought that Jesus was rebuking them for their lack of understanding.
There are days where we all feel like this. We don't understand something, yet we feel like we should understand it. We may feel like we are being rebuked because of our lack of understanding. However, I do not believe this was a bad thing.
If Jesus wanted to criticize His disciples, He had enough opportunities! However, this was not what Jesus did. Rather, He explained His parables to the disciples. Today, if we feel that we are being rebuked, we should listen. We should listen and ask God to explain our situation to us. We should ask for clarification on anything that we do not understand. We should ask, then listen for the answer.
