This is the shortest verse in the Bible. However, it is one that should make us think. Many people think about Jesus as very unemotional during His life on earth. However, this is not so.
Jesus was upset about the death of His friend, Lazarus. As far as we can tell from Scripture, Lazarus was a devout, godly man. Jesus loved Lazarus. He was so sad about the death of Lazarus that He cried. This should make us think.
If Jesus was upset about the physical death of His close friend, how upset do you think He is about the number of people who will experience the second death? I think that He weeps over those who refuse to believe in Him.
What can we do? If Jesus is upset because of those who choose to go to hell, what is our reasonable course of action? If we love Jesus, we should be upset that He is upset. We should go out and take every possible opportunity to reach the lost for Christ. This includes our friends, neighbors, and family. There will be some who do not wish to receive the Gospel of Christ. However, there will also be some who choose Christ when presented with the Gospel. These will be those who, like Lazarus, respond when Jesus says to "Come out"! Let's take every opportunity to reach them.
