How many people do you know? I am not talking about people you have met only once or twice. I am talking about people that you actually know. You know their personality. You understand them. I would venture to guess that we say that we know more people than we actually do.
Just as there is a distinction between knowing our friends and family, and truly knowing our friends and family, there is also a distinction that must be drawn between knowing God and truly knowing God.
Scripture informs us that anyone can know that God exists simply by looking at nature. The fingerprints of a Designer are all around us! In this sense, anyone who sees the design of nature can know about God. However, there is more to knowing God than simply knowing about Him.
Just as we only truly know our friends when we know their personalities and their lifestyles, we only know God when we know His personality. John the apostle defines it here. It is simply love. God is loving by nature, and to know God, we must first truly love. The model for this is the life of Jesus Christ. We should all look to this model daily for our guidance.
