We love our routines. Whether it is purchasing a coffee at the same store every morning or washing our car every Saturday, we love our routines. That's great! But what happens when our routines are interrupted? What do we do then? As I read through a few more chapters of Genesis today, I realized that I have not always responded in the way I should.
Noah was a righteous man. He did what was right, even though everyone around him was doing wrong. Yet Noah had a routine that he followed. This routine was one day broken up by a great flood. When the flood waters dried up, Noah did not immediately go back to his routine. First, Noah built an altar to God.
I believe we can draw a parallel between Noah's life and our own lives. All of us have times when our routines are interrupted by what seems like a flood, an event that we cannot control. How we respond to this is up to us. We can choose to ignore it and continue on with our routines, we can face it by ourselves, even when we know that we cannot win, or we can ask for God's help, and thank Him for what He does for us.
