Have you ever accepted anything blindly? Before you answer, stop and really think about this. Were you ever told anything in a class in school that you did not question? Have you ever been asked to do anything at work that you did not try to understand? Has anyone ever gossiped to you, and you accepted it blindly? Have you ever listened to a pastor preach a sermon without reading the Scripture along with him, or checking its context? The idea here is to stop and think.
Christians should be some of the best critical thinkers in the world. Why? Because we are commanded to "test all things". All truth is God's truth, and critical thinking helps us to discover the truth. However, our thinking must be guided by the Spirit.
Next time you hear a sermon, read along with the preacher. Check the context of the passage. Try to understand what the true meaning of this Scripture is. And when all is done, follow the advice of Paul the apostle and "hold on to what is good."
